Participant Stories…

  • Damian

Hi, my name is Damian I’m 48 years old from the Sunshine Coast Queensland. I love fishing and getting outdoors, I joined Disability Support Sunshine Coast as a client in March of 2023, with goals to live a healthier lifestyle, get out into the community more often and catch big fish!

I love hanging out and fishing with my support workers Guy and Sam. We always have a good laugh and good banter. The guys are always happy to help me with baiting my rods and rigging up my fishing lines, and we always catch good fish!

I have caught the biggest fish of my life multiple times over since starting at DSSC. I have also learnt a whole lot about the species and the fishery in which we reside on the Sunshine Coast.

On top of the fishing I am living a healthier lifestyle now than I was before, I drink and smoke less now which is awesome! And I get out for walks with the guys and we do boxing workouts as well.

  • David

David joined Disability Support Sunshine Coast as a client in March 2023 with NDIS goals to lose weight, gain new skills and to become more independent and comfortable in the community. David’s condition is a spinal condition which causes him chronic pain and limits the amount of physical activity he can do.

Along side the team, David has been able to  engage in fishing trips, beach walks, and multiple visits to Australia Zoo. He has also been able to accomplish another of his NDIS goals of adopting a dog, and the team have been able to help David take his dog on walks and to dog parks.

For the past 8 months with DSSC; David has been focusing on losing weight for his overall health. In combination with the team’s commitment and motivation, David has been able to attend his local gym with our staff to learn more and to establish more independence in a crowded setting.  He has since achieved 15 kgs lost.

David said the team have been very beneficial with a goal targeted approach and have client focused -driven staff.
